Market Theatre, Ledbury, Herefordshire, England

Ledbury’s new (rebuilt) Market Theatre   opened its doors in 2000 after much negotiating and fund raising from the Ledbury Amateur Dramatic Society (LADS).  It is reputed to be the first theatre to open in the new millennium!

Situated near the town centre and built on the site of the former Church Room (a typical ‘tin tabernacle’ constructed in 1910), it became a theatre in 1956, with a change of name to The Market Theatre in the 1970s. From 1963 until 1979 this was the only theatre in Herefordshire.

The little theatre presents around three productions a year and also shows films on a regular basis.

The theatre building won Ledbury’s annual Design Awards competition for the best contribution to the town’s built environment during 1999.

The Market Theatre is owned and run for the community by LADS, and may be hired by phoning 01531-633760. Check out their website to see what showing.
